DISTRICT INFORMATION
The PZW Słupsk District is a local organizational unit of the largest angling association in Poland. The Polish Angling Association (PZW) was established in 1950 and continues a century-and-a-half-long tradition of organized Polish angling. The organization currently has over 600,000 members, organized into 42 districts and over 2,000 clubs. PZW is the largest fishing user in the country. The Association’s detailed objectives and operating methods are defined in its statute. The PZW is a member of two international organizations: the International Confederation of Sport Fishing (CIPS) (since 1958) and the International Casting Sport Federation (ICSF) (since 2003).
The PZW Słupsk District was established slightly later than the Association itself. It began operating on January 1, 1976, as a result of the Association’s organizational reform. It has had legal personality since 1998. Currently, it manages 87 lakes and ponds of various sizes, with a total area of over 1,813 ha, 2 dam reservoirs with an area of over 140 ha, and 21 river fishing sectors with an area of over 700 ha. The District is developing dynamically and constantly taking steps to acquire new waters, therefore this data is current as of July 2025. The PZW Słupsk District operates in the following counties: Bytów, Człuchów, Lębork, Słupsk, the city of Słupsk, and parts of the Chojnice and Sławno counties.
The highest authority in a district is the District Congress of Delegates. Between congresses, the district is governed by the board, headed by the board president. The district board’s powers are extensive, and it effectively directs the work of the entire district. Additionally, district bodies include the District Audit Committee and the District Peer Court. All members of the district boards, clubs, and their statutory bodies perform their work on a voluntary basis.
The Słupsk District has nearly 7,000 members, including over 700 children and youth (Junior members). The District has 45 Clubs and one sport fishing club. An additional, supporting organizational level within the district is the region, which comprises several to a dozen or so clubs operating within a given district. With a relatively small membership by Polish standards, the Słupsk district manages a significant number of attractive waters, making its waters readily visited by PZW members from other districts and non-members. One of the true „gems” among our fishing waters is the Łupawa River, where European, Polish and regional fly fishing championships are regularly held. It is one of the best grayling fisheries in Poland and is also well known across Europe. The river’s natural and wild character is highly appreciated by foreign anglers. In addition to grayling, the Łupawa is also known for its beautiful specimens of river trout and sea trout. The Słupsk District also manages the Słupia River, which is one of the most popular sea trout rivers, and where effective natural salmon spawning takes place. Other beautiful Pomeranian rivers under the care of the PZW Słupsk District include the Wieprza, Brda, and Skotawa. All of these rivers, along with their tributaries, are well worth visiting for a true angling adventure. Other rivers in the region are also rich in fish and full of charm, so every angler will find something special here.
The waters of the District also include lakes and reservoir dams, many of which are excellent fishing spots for predatory fish, carp, tench, bream, whitefish, eel, and many other species. Among the most attractive lakes are the Człuchów Lake Complex, with Lake Rychnowskie at the forefront, the Bytów lakes, led by Lake Jeleń, the beautiful lakes of Miastko, Lake Lubowidz near Lębork, and many more. It’s also worth visiting the Krzynia and Konradowo reservoir dams, which are rich in all types of fish, including the European catfish.
All waters managed by the PZW Słupsk District are regularly stocked and protected. The district operates its own fish breeding center in Damnica, where the incubation of salmon, sea trout, river trout, grayling, and pike eggs takes place, and the fry are reared to appropriate developmental stages. The hatchery produces its own stocking material, which is then used to replenish the managed fishing areas. Additionally, the Damnica center raises other fish species from fry to advanced developmental stages, also to be used for stocking purposes. Well-stocked waters are protected by the officers of the Voluntary Fisheries Guard, which operates actively across all regions of the district.
The PZW Słupsk District places great importance on working with young people and educating them about fishing. Annual events for children and young people are organized to celebrate Children’s Day. The district organizes the Słupsk Youth Olympics, and individual clubs organize competitions and festivals to mark the occasion. Various pro-ecological initiatives are undertaken with the participation of young people, such as cleaning lake shores, planting trees, and so on. Young people actively participate in the sport of fishing, competing in selected disciplines. Fourteen permanent fishing schools operate within the district. This work with young people results in a significant percentage of participating members and subsequent sporting successes. The number of youth training inspectors and instructors is constantly growing.
The Słupsk District is an organizer of sport fishing. Anglers from the Słupsk District include members of the national team in fly, carp, and beach fishing. We are also developing spinning and float fishing disciplines. Fishing is organized at the club, regions, and district levels. Competitions of all levels, including the European Championships, are held on our waters. We have a properly trained team of judges.
To fish in the waters of the PZW Słupsk District, you must have a fishing license and a valid contribution for water protection and management, or a fee for non-members. Foreigners temporarily staying in Poland are exempt from having a fishing license. Fees and fees can be paid at one of the clubs operating within the District, at the District’s headquarters, or online.
