Fishing competition to mark ‘Człuchów Days’
Anglers from Człuchów celebrated Człuchów’s anniversary with a fishing competition. The competition to mark “Człuchów Days” took place on 17 June 2023 at Lake Miejskie Duże in Człuchów. The event was organised by the Człuchów branch of the Polish Angling Association (PZW).
Thirteen two-person teams took part. One member of each team fished in Sector A using the float method, whilst the other fished in Sector B using the bottom fishing method. Fish were scored according to size and closed season regulations, with 1 point awarded for every gram of fish caught and counted. Furthermore, in Sector B, bleak were excluded from the scoring.
The competitors started at 8.45. Initially, fishing took place in excellent weather conditions: warm, windless and even muggy. At around 12.15, the weather changed. A strong wind blew in from the west and heavy rain began to fall. On top of that, a storm was approaching. Despite these adverse conditions, the competition ended as planned after 4 hours, i.e. at 12.45.
After the competition, a communal meal was held, followed by a debriefing attended by the Mayor of Człuchów, Ryszard Szybajło. Commemorative gifts, certificates, medals and prizes were presented. The competition must be considered an outstanding success. The fishing was excellent, particularly in the float fishing sector. Average catches exceeded 3 kg. In the bottom fishing sector, results were slightly poorer, but overall it can be said that the fish put in a stellar performance. The best score recorded that day was 6,190 points, which in practice means around 600 fish caught! The main species caught were bleak, roach and bream.
