Children’s Fishing Day and Senior Citizens’ Competition
On 11 June this year, the annual fishing festival for children and young people, entitled ‘Children’s Fishing Day 2022’, took place at the PZW Club’s marina in Człuchów. After two years in a row when, due to the pandemic, the competition had been held in August, we were finally able to organise the event in June.
The competition was held in three age categories: under 9s, under 13s and under 17s. Each group competed in fishing contests lasting 1 hour, 1.5 hours and 2 hours respectively. Each group then took part in a fishing skills competition. The oldest and middle groups set up a ‘whip’ rig, whilst the youngest threw groundbait at a target. It was great fun. The festival lasted from morning until afternoon.
To round off the event, each age group held its own debriefing session. Everyone received sweets, drinks, gifts and commemorative medals. Exquisite grilled specialities awaited everyone.
The Club’s team of judges, along with numerous volunteers – Marek Myszka, Krzysztof Duniec, Andrzej Świtoń, Łukasz Szymański, Piotr Szczygielski, Ania and Mateusz Maleccy, and Maciej Pawłowski. The whole event was coordinated and led by the Club’s Chairman, Karol Dziemiańczyk. Sponsors also turned out in force. The competition was co-funded with contributions from the Municipality of Człuchów and the Człuchów Local Authority. There were also private sponsors: the HOBBY fishing shop in Człuchów and Mr Andrzej Świtoń.
In total, nearly a hundred competitors, supervisors and organisers took part in the event. The fishing was good. The young anglers caught bleak, roach, silver bream, common bream, rudd and perch.

in the under-17 category:
1st place Szymon Kawczyński 1,290 points;
2nd place Jakub Koniec 1,140 points;
3rd place Filip Kiedrowicz 880 points.
In the skills competition:
1st place: Nadia Badach, 26 points;
2nd place: Tomasz Kołatka, 24 points;
3rd place: Jakub Końec, 24 points.
in the under-13s category:
1st place Szymon Szlip 1,140 points;
2nd place Jakub Piechowski 1,100 points;
3rd place Michał Komala 1,090 points.
In the fitness competition:
1st place: Hubert Warylak, 30 points;
2nd place: Stanisław Łukowski, 28 points;
3rd place: Szymon Szlip, 28 points.
in the under-9s category:
1st place Jakub Malecki 1,460 points;
2nd place Mikołaj Grudzień 1,390 points;
3rd place Bartosz Frankowski 800 points.
in the skills competition:
1st place Tomasz Bąk 26 points;
2nd place Cyprian Szyca 26 points;
3rd place Mikołaj Grudzień 24 points.
On the same day, following the children’s competition, a fishing competition was held for senior members of the Człuchów branch of the Polish Angling Association (PZW). This combination of youth and experience proved to be a good idea, and from now on we will organise competitions for children and seniors at the same time. Although International Seniors’ Day falls on 1 October, we will celebrate our Seniors’ Angling Day together with Children’s Day.
Anglers aged 60 or over were eligible to take part in this competition. The oldest competitor, Paweł Piechowski, was a remarkable 88 years old! The competitors started at 4.00 pm and fished for 4 hours. The results achieved by the seniors left no room for doubt: experience in this discipline definitely trumps youth. Eleven seniors took part, and the best catch of the competition totalled over 8 kg of fish. The seniors also caught mainly roach, bream and bleak. The biggest fish of the competition was caught by Krzysztof Duniec. It was a half-kilogram bream. At the end, all competitors received commemorative certificates, whilst the day’s top performers were awarded trophies and prizes. A warm and tasty barbecue was on offer for everyone.
Results of the senior competition:
1st place: Jan Nitz, 8,160 points;
2nd place: Krzysztof Duniec, 6,640 points;
3rd place: Ryszard Lubiński, 6,000 points.
