8th Carp Championship
From 19 to 22 May this year, the Słupsk District Carp Fishing Championships of the Polish Angling Association (PZW) were held on Lake Wandzińskie in the municipality of Człuchów. This was the eighth edition of the event. The competition was organised by the PZW branch in Człuchów in conjunction with the Człuchów Carp Club.
Eleven two-person teams, representing branches and clubs from the Słupsk District, took part. The four-day competition promised to be very exciting, as the competitors included the current Polish runners-up in the carp discipline – Winicjusz Białek and Piotr Nowicki. Furthermore, victory in the competition secures a place in this year’s Polish Championships.
The first day of the competition yielded just three scoring carp: two at station no. 1, occupied by the team from PZW Człuchów – Karol Dziemiańczyk and Łukasz Szeremeta – and one caught at station no. 5, occupied by Bartosz Smoleń and Krzysztof Stencel from CKK. The following day saw a parade of fine specimens caught at stand no. 10, occupied by Krzysztof and Maciej Brzozowski from the PZW ‘Sandacz’ Debrzno branch. On that day, they ‘scored’ with six carp. The team at stand no. 15 from the Potęgowo PZW Club also caught one fish. The next day of competition – Saturday – brought more fish, but also a sharp deterioration in the weather. Gusty winds and rain took a heavy toll on the anglers. Nevertheless, as many as eight carp were caught that day, three of them at station no. 10. The team from Debrzno took a clear lead in the competition and continued to consolidate their position. The fate of the other places remained in the balance, and it was not until Sunday that the order on the podium was decided. On Sunday, a total of 9 scoring fish were caught.
Final results:
1st place: Maciej and Krzysztof Brzozowski from the PZW ‘Sandacz’ Debrzno Angling Club, 90.29 kg (9 carp);
2nd place: Paweł Gintowt and Zbigniew Mazur from the Potęgowo PZW Club, 54.25 kg (5 carp);
3rd place: Bartosz Smoleń and Krzysztof Stencel from CKK, 46.99 kg (4 carp);
4th place: Winicjusz Białek and Piotr Nowicki from CKK, 39.68 kg (3 carp, 1 grass carp);
5th place: Karol Dziemiańczyk and Łukasz Szeremeta from the Człuchów PZW Branch, 25.37 kg (3 carp);
6th place: Marek Myszka and Kazimierz Januszewski from the Człuchów PZW Branch, total 16.83 kg (1 carp);
7th place: Jacek Fogt and Oleksandr Kolesnyk from the PZW ‘Okoń’ Damno Branch, total 14.68 kg (1 carp).
The remaining four teams did not catch any fish that scored points. The largest fish of the competition was a carp weighing 16.83 kg, caught by Kazimierz Januszewski from the Człuchów PZW Club. A total of 27 scoring fish were caught, with a combined weight of 288.09 kg (average 10.67).
The competition was judged by Maciej Wdowczyk and Andrzej Świtoń.
The official opening of the competition also provided an opportunity to present awards. Mr Maciej Wdowczyk was honoured with the ‘Distinguished Service to Agriculture’ badge. Colleagues Białek and Nowicki received bronze ‘Distinguished Member’ badges from the Człuchów branch of the Polish Angling Association (PZW).
