5th PZW Słupsk District Carp Angling Championships
From 1 to 4 August this year, the fifth PZW Słupsk District Carp Fishing Championships took place on Lake Wandzińskie near Człuchów. The competition was organised by the PZW Branch in Człuchów, in collaboration with the Człuchów Carp Club, which operates within the branch. The championships were open to all. Fifteen teams registered for the event, eight from the Słupsk District and the rest from other districts and clubs across Poland. The number of teams was limited by the capacity of this fishing ground, which covers just over 10 hectares.
The event opened with a minute’s silence to mark the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. This was followed by the draw for fishing spots, and fishing began at 1.00 pm.
Competitors fished in teams of two. There was also one solo competitor. The competition also served as a qualifier for the Polish Carp Angling Championships – PCM 2019. Points were awarded for carp and grass carp weighing over 2 kg. Everything was, of course, based on the strict ‘catch and release’ principle. The competition was judged by Maciej Wdowczyk and Maciej Pawłowski.
On the first day of the competition, three carp were caught. The results improved with each passing day. The following day saw 10 fish caught; on Saturday, the anglers bagged a further 19; and on the final day, another 14. A total of 46 carp were caught, with a combined weight of 474.65 kg, giving an average weight per fish of 10.3 kg!!! The biggest fish of the competition, weighing 13.80 kg, was landed by Karol Dziemiańczyk on the very first day of the competition. The competition concluded at midday on 4 August.
To round off the event, there was a summary of the competition, followed by the presentation of commemorative certificates, trophies and prizes to the top six teams. The entire competition took place in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry, but also of cooperation and the exchange of experiences. Only one team returned from the competition empty-handed. The competition was sponsored by one of the fishing tackle shops in Człuchów.
The final standings were as follows (the top six):
1st place: Sławomir Solarek and Maciej Buczkowski from Bydgoszcz, 12 fish weighing 110.55 kg;
2nd place: Tomasz Buczkowski and Janusz Dziuba from Bydgoszcz, 9 fish weighing 95.75 kg;
3rd place: Arkadiusz Chruścicki and Artur Weisbrodt from Gdynia, 7 fish weighing 72.55 kg;
4th place: Winicjusz Białek from Człuchów, 4 fish weighing 41.35 kg;
5th place: Paweł Bujnowski and Damian Bogdan from Wałcz, 3 fish weighing 33.80 kg;
6th place: Karol and Katarzyna Dziemiańczyk from Człuchów, 2 fish weighing 26.75 kg.
The winning team will represent the Słupsk District of the Polish Angling Association (PZW) at the final of the Polish Carp Angling Championships – PCM 2019, from 14 to 20 September this year at the ‘Pogoria III’ reservoir in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
